The Banasura Sagar dam
Banasura Sagar dam is the largest earthen dam in India and is the second largest one in Asia. It is filled with the fresh and clear water from the Karamanathodu, a tributary of the Kabini river. You can go for a skimming in the dam with a speedboat. The dam located near to the Karalad lake, In the south western part of wayanad. This is the start point for the trekking to the Banasura peak. The Edakkal caves
The edakkal caves opens the unseen pictures of prehistoric times. The caves said to be discovered by a British police officer in 1890 named Mr. Fred Fawcett. he was belonging to the erstwhile state of Malabar. The edakkal caves located at an altitude of 1,200 meters above sea level. The cave formed in a way from a large fissure in a huge rock. The Kuruva dweep or islands is a 950 acres of ever green and rich forest. This is a part of the east flowing river Kabani. The island is really amazing with the dark green trees and you can met a lot of variety birds and animals deep inside the forest. In the forest in between you can met the small hands of river which is usually low in depth and you can swim and cross with foot easily. Rare types of orchids and herbs make this a heaven. From mananthavady you have to travel 17km to reach in kuruva islands.
Pookot lake, Vythiri
The Pookot lake is a beautiful and must see fresh water Lake in between the green mountains. The lake measures 8.5ha, the maximum water depth of pookat lake is 6.5mtrs. This lake situated three kms. south of Vythiri, Wayanad district. The natures best climate is available here, you can enjoy the seamless beuty of earth and fresh water together.
